Spiritual Warfare To Help Family Members

How to Respond and Help Family Members Being Spiritually Attacked

As Christians we are not exempt from the attack by demonic forces. In fact, we are often the target of these demonic forces because the devil comes to steal our joy and peace in order to separate us from God.  The devil tried to temp Jesus in the desert. We see this in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke.

The Devil will also tempt you. Many times, his schemes are to use close family members to achieve his desired results.

Be aware of the following signs:

Sign #1 Shift in Behavior or Attitudes.

  1. Acceptance of sinful behavior.
  2. Loss of integrity.
  3. Lying.
  4. Experimentation with new ideas, occults, new friends.
  5. A retreat from church, prayer, Bible study.
  6. Having more sinful people in their lives and making excuses for them.
  7. There are many more signs but essentially just as Adam and Eve in the garden they begin to question the authority of God.
  8. Action Plan: Do not remain silent hoping it is just a “phase”.  You are entering a spiritual battle. Not only for that person but also for your own soul. Remember the devil comes to KILL, STEAL and DESTROY.
  9. Speak truth.
  10. Stand firm in love.
  11. Pray.
  12. Divisions cause destruction in relationships, family, communities and countries.

Sign #2: Resistance to God’s word and truth

a. The divisions grow, walls are reinforced, accusations abound.

b. Trust will be overtaken by grudges.

c. A house divided cannot stand.

d. The fruits of love, honor, peace, joy and forgiveness will be uprooted by anger, resentment, deception, chaos.

1.Under the influence of this Spirit, a person can become incapable of reflection and rational thought. They are blinded by their pride in believing they are justified in their actions. They are believing in their own “truth” and cannot comprehend the truth of God. Only God can break these chains.

  • Action Plan; Pray and always speak truth in love. Stand firm.

Sign #3 Negative energy and emotional drain.

  1. Good is bad. Bad is good. Truth is relative.
  2. God’s word is outdated. Society has advanced beyond it.
  3. Those who believe are mocked, then scorned, then attacked.
  4. These are not intellectual differences they are a battle. The devil will convince them that they are their own god, sin has no consequences, there is no judgement or accountability.
  5. Their battle is not with you. It is with God. Pray for them. Plant seeds of God’s truth.
  6. God’s light is faster than any man can run. Darkness cannot overcome light.
  7. The slow erosion of love. The demonic person will attempt in every conceivable way to erode the Christ love you show towards them.  This is part of the devil’s plan to thwart your efforts to shine Christ’s truth and love. Do not become so frustrated that you quit.  Remember this person is your family member or dear friend. Keep the door open. And do not let hurt feelings or pride keep you from opening the door again and again.
  8. As Satan continues to take hold of them, they lose all compassion, people become disposable to them, emotions are weaknesses. Money and material become a goal to fill the void left where there was once love.  Without love there is no peace or joy.

Action plan; Continue to show love towards them. Speak to them about God’s love and what that means in their life.  If you can open a window or door in their heart. The love of God may get a foothold.  No heart is too far gone that God’s love cannot enter.

  •  Another sign of demonic possession or oppression is signs of occult activity. There may be signs of witchcraft or fortune telling. There may be symbols of death such as skeletons or skulls. The color black becomes predominate in dress or accessories. They are drawn to violence and destruction, perhaps pornography plays a role. Darkness is no longer a mere curiosity; it is a consummation of self and attitude.
  • The final steps are you no longer recognize your family member or dear friend as their character has changed, they become more angry, more depressed. They are hostile to your prayers.

Action Plan.

YOU ARE IN A Spiritual Battle.

  • Continue to Pray with them and for them. Whether they are present or not.
  • Continue to ask questions and point the word of God. Remember God’s word is truth.     Lead by example. Do not let them control the environment or situation.
  • Be Safe in your surroundings. They will test you. Your presence confronts and irritates them.
  • Let them talk then weave in God’s words and his love.
  • Remember they need to choose to repent and ask for God’s help.
